When material is used without authorization, which violates the exclusive rights of the copyright owner, it is known as copyright infringement. Someone may be found liable to reimburse damages to the actual owner of the copyright and any additional profits as a result of the violation. If you registered your copyright with the United States Copyright Office before the infringement occurred, your chances may be greater of obtaining a monetary settlement.

If you are willing to obtain a lawyer and take action, you may be able to stop the infringement from going any further. Even though you may not wish to do so, if you want to receive damages due to copyright infringement and deter others from doing the same, you will need to bring the matter to litigation.
