Copyright Property

Copyright grants, the author of an original work, exclusive rights over that work. These rights last for a predetermined period. Copyright over a property grants the author the right to publication, distribution, and adaptation of their work. After the copyright time has expired, the work will enter public domain. Copyright property can include any form of an idea that can be expressed. However, it must be of substance and in fixed within a medium. Moral rights are also recognized by several jurisdictions. These grant the creator the right to be credited for his or her work. Copyright falls under the umbrella term intellectual property along with patents and trademarks. Copyright has an internationally standardized length of anywhere from 50 to 100 years from the author's death. Anonymous and corporate authorship is typically a shorter period. While some jurisdictions have a formal copyright registration process, most recognize copyright as any completed work, without the formal registration process.
