World Intellectual Property Organization

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established in 1967 is one of 16 specialized agencies within the United Nations. WIPO has set out to encourage activity and protect and promote intellectual property on a global scale. WIPO's international intellectual property system is an easy to access and balanced. In addition, it is known for rewarding creativity. This system's goal is to generate innovation and it has consistently contributed to the development of the world's economy. WIPO is experiencing a process of strategic realignment. Some of the ways that the WIPO has planned to achieve this comprehensive endeavor include facing global issues that affect intellectual property, offering information and analysis of intellectual property through their world reference source, and maintaining effective lines of communication between WIPO and its member states and stakeholders. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, WIPO currently has applied 24 international treaties and has 184 member states. In addition, WIPO's bi-monthly magazine is available in English, French and Spanish.
