How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I am a team player who enjoys participating in the creation process. I have always loved words, and I feel absolutely blessed to be able to work with contracts on a daily basis. I've found business law to be engaging and challenging.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I whole-heartedly encourage my clients to educate themselves, and to use me as a resource to that end. I go to great lengths to make myself available via telephone and email for any questions. During initial consultations, I spend a great deal of time educating clients on their current situation, and what they can expect during our time together. I provide articles, websites, and recommendations of people with whom to speak throughout our relationship. I have created a number of easy-to-read articles and a business formation comparison chart for my business clients to use as a reference tool. Of course, Nolo is a tremendous legal reference, and I am proud to associate with such an accessible educational resource.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing to review documents for my clients, whether prepared by them or provided to them by another party. I am always honest with my clients, and I will let them know if reviewing the document is a waste of time and money for them, as well.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to coach clients who wish to represent themselves in certain circumstances. They say: "he who represents himself has a fool for a client," and this is often true. Please feel free to call or email and I'll be happy to discuss your particular situation.

Melissa has an specific approach to working with her clienIts called HOLISTIC BUSINESS LAW (HBL). HBL is a method that recognizes business is deeply personal, even spiritual. We recognize that all the parts of you are connected and that they also inform your business. This foundation allows us to effectively grow with you and your business, guiding with a full range of knowledge, awareness, and information. It's also tremendously effective and HBL completely does away with hourly billing. Hourly billing erodes the fundamental trust necessary for a successful attorney-client relationship. Instead, we charge flat-fees. This allows clients to budget, and also call up to ask questions freely. It also allows us to focus more completely on the legal needs of the client, not invoicing and time-tracking.
